What we do
Practitioner Ethics is an independent online education provider for registered health practitioners in Australia. We publish self-paced courses, structured programs and practical tools on the parts of practice that sit between clinical skill and regulation: ethics, professional conduct, boundaries, honesty, records, consent, prescribing, advertising, privacy and cultural safety.
Our courses are built on the documents your National Board actually uses when it considers a practitioner's conduct. That means the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, the shared Code of conduct adopted by twelve National Boards, Good medical practice, the nursing and midwifery codes, the Psychology Board's code, and the guidelines and position statements that sit around them, together with Commonwealth law where it applies, such as the Privacy Act 1988 and the Medicare billing rules.
We write for busy clinicians. Each course explains the standard, shows how it plays out in real Australian settings through anonymised and fictional cases, and then asks you to apply it to your own practice through questions, a scenario-based assessment and a written reflection.

Who we write for
Our learners are registered practitioners across the National Scheme. Most come to us for one of four reasons.
Planned professional development
Practitioners who want focused ethics and professionalism learning to include in their annual CPD plan, alongside their clinical CPD.
A concern has been raised
Practitioners who have received a notification, a complaint or employer feedback and want to understand the standard and reflect on it properly.
A specific risk area
Practitioners working in areas with higher regulatory exposure, such as cosmetic procedures, telehealth, high-risk prescribing or advertising.
Teams and organisations
Practice owners, managers and educators who want consistent, standards-based training for their staff.
How we are different
Much professional ethics training is either too abstract to use on a Tuesday afternoon clinic or too thin to show real understanding. We aim for the middle ground: substantial courses grounded in primary sources, written in plain Australian English, with enough depth that completing them takes real thought.
- Profession-specific where it matters. Alongside courses for all practitioners, we publish courses written for individual professions, from pharmacists and psychologists to paramedics, optometrists and Chinese medicine practitioners, using that profession's own Board, code, standards and typical risks.
- Practical, not theoretical. Every course uses Australian scenarios, decision frameworks and apply-it questions, and ends with a reflective account you write about your own practice.
- Assessment that means something. Each course closes with a scenario-based multiple-choice assessment with an 80% pass mark, designed so that passing depends on having worked through the material.
- Honest about what education can and cannot do. We explain plainly where our courses fit and where they do not, including in regulatory matters.

Our independence and its limits
Practitioner Ethics is not affiliated with Ahpra, any National Board, any professional association, any college or any government body. Our courses are not accredited, not approved and not endorsed by Ahpra or any National Board. We say this on every course page because it matters to the decisions you make about your CPD and, for some learners, about a regulatory matter.
Under the National Board CPD registration standards, you are responsible for choosing CPD activities that are relevant to your practice and for recording the time you actually spend. Our certificates state an approximate learning time, and you decide whether and how a course fits your CPD plan. Some professions have additional rules, such as the Medical Board's requirement for doctors to have a CPD home, so check your own Board's standard.
If you are subject to a notification, conditions or undertakings, education can help you build understanding and evidence of reflection, but no course can guarantee any regulatory outcome, and a Board or tribunal decides for itself what weight to give any course. If you have a notification, please get advice from your professional indemnity insurer, medical defence organisation or a lawyer before choosing any course to rely on.
Who writes our courses
Courses are researched, written and reviewed by the Practitioner Ethics editorial team. We do not publish author names or biographies. Instead we ask you to judge the work on its content: every course lists the primary sources it relies on, and we correct errors promptly when they are reported.
We do not use testimonials, invented statistics or claims about learner numbers. We would rather you looked at a course outline, read the preview material on the course page and decided for yourself whether it meets your needs. If you want to try a complete course first, our free course is a full example of the format.
