Why organisations invest in ethics and professionalism education

Every registered health practitioner in your team is bound by their National Board's code of conduct, registration standards and guidelines. When things go wrong, the consequences rarely stay with one person. A complaint about communication, a gap in the records, a boundary issue or a billing error can involve a manager, a practice owner, a clinical lead and the wider team, as well as the practitioner who is the subject of the concern.

Most of the matters that reach regulators are not about rare clinical catastrophes. They are about everyday professional behaviour: how a practitioner explained a risk, whether consent was properly recorded, how a disagreement with a colleague was handled, what was posted online, or whether a fee was made clear before treatment. These are areas where shared understanding across a team makes a real difference, and where a short, well-designed course can change habits.

Organisations also carry their own obligations. Employers have mandatory notification duties under the National Law in defined circumstances. Workplaces are expected to take proactive steps to prevent sexual harassment and other unlawful conduct. Practices that advertise must comply with the advertising provisions of the National Law and Ahpra's advertising guidelines, and services that hold health information must meet privacy obligations. Education is not a substitute for good systems, but it is part of how a team shows it understands what is expected.

Practitioner Ethics is an independent education provider. Our courses are written for Australian registered health practitioners, are built around the shared Code of conduct and each Board's own standards, and are kept under editorial review. They are not accredited and not approved by Ahpra or any National Board. Each practitioner decides how a course fits their own CPD plan and records the time they actually spend.

Courses teams use most

These courses address issues that come up across most workplaces. Every course in the catalogue can be assigned with a team licence.

Three ways to work with us

Choose the option that suits how your organisation buys and delivers learning. Many organisations combine them.

Who we work with

Our catalogue covers fifteen registered professions, so mixed teams can learn from one place while each practitioner still studies material relevant to their own Board.

  • Hospitals and health services

Ward and department teams working across professions, where communication, open disclosure, teamwork and respectful workplace conduct sit alongside clinical care.

  • General practices and medical clinics

Practice principals and clinicians managing consent, records, Medicare billing, chaperones and patient complaints.

  • Dental groups

Multi-site groups with dentists, hygienists, therapists and prosthetists, where financial consent, advertising and records are recurring themes.

  • Pharmacies

Community and hospital pharmacy teams dealing with dispensing decisions, prescribing changes, privacy at the counter and commercial pressures.

  • Aged care and disability providers

Employers of nurses, allied health and other registered staff, where dignity, consent, documentation and mandatory notifications matter every shift.

  • Allied health and multidisciplinary clinics

Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, podiatry, chiropractic, osteopathy and optometry practices with boundaries, advertising and telehealth questions.

  • Locum and nursing agencies

Agencies that place practitioners in unfamiliar settings and want them to arrive with a shared understanding of conduct expectations.

  • Training and supervision settings

Supervisors of interns, registrars, provisional psychologists and practitioners with conditions who need structured material to work through.

Programs for structured team learning

Programs group related courses into a pathway. They suit induction, annual refresher cycles or a focus area agreed with your clinical governance committee.

How to get started

  1. Tell us what you need

Use the contact form to tell us about your organisation, the professions in your team, roughly how many people you want to reach and any issues you are trying to address.

  2. Choose an approach

We will suggest team licences, live training, a partnership or a combination, and point you to the courses or programs that best match your goals.

  3. Set up and invite

For team licences, you buy credits and invite staff by email. For live training, we agree content, dates and format with you before confirming a quote.

  4. Track and review

Use completion reports to see progress, and review with us at the end of the cycle what worked and what to cover next.

What we will and will not claim

We want your staff to take this education seriously, which means being straightforward about what it is.

  • Courses are independent education. They are not accredited and not approved by Ahpra or any National Board, and completing them does not change a practitioner's registration status.
  • Course hours are estimates. Practitioners record the time they actually spend and decide how it fits their own CPD plan and their Board's CPD registration standard.
  • Doctors must belong to a CPD home; our courses can be logged as educational activities there but do not replace it.
  • No course can guarantee any outcome in a notification, investigation or employment process.
  • If a staff member is the subject of a notification, they should get advice from their professional indemnity insurer, medical defence organisation or lawyer. Your organisation may also need its own advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy courses for staff from different professions?

Yes. Credits are not tied to a profession. A nurse, a pharmacist and a physiotherapist on the same licence can each take the course that fits their own Board and role, including profession-specific courses.

Do your courses count as CPD for our staff?

Each practitioner decides whether a course fits their CPD plan and records the time they actually spend. Our courses are educational activities designed to align with the shared Code of conduct and Board standards, but they are not accredited and not approved by Ahpra or the Boards.

Can we track who has completed a course?

Yes. With team licences, managers see assignments, progress and completions in a dashboard and can download completion reports for their records.

Can you run training specifically for our team?

Yes. Live training is built from our course topics and adapted to your setting, delivered online or at your site. It is quoted per group once we understand what you need.

Can we use your courses as part of managing a performance or conduct concern?

Many organisations use them to support learning after an incident or complaint. Keep the education separate from any formal process decision, and make sure the practitioner has access to independent advice where the matter is serious or may involve the regulator.

Is there a minimum number of credits?

Team licences start at the smallest tier shown in the live pricing table. If you only need a few courses for individuals, the multi-buy discounts on our bulk-buy page may suit you better.

Do you offer a partnership for law firms or defence organisations?

Yes. Our partner program gives lawyers, indemnity providers and recruiters a simple way to refer people to suitable education, with options such as member codes and bulk invoicing. We make no promises about how a Board will view any course.

How do we pay?

Team licences can be paid by card or by invoice, and we can work with your purchase order process. Live training is invoiced against an agreed quote.
